Lou Chapelle - Reflections

Lou Chapelle is a UK-based French digital artist. Her work combines video with holographic and digital technologies
to create magical immersive spaces. Her works vary from large scale immersive pieces to more intimate and tactile forms.

Her exploration of the medium of video as “light in space” re-invents the way we look at moving images, giving the pixels a more physical and palpable form.

About the work

Reflections is a series of holographic mirrors of various sizes and heights, inviting viewers to pause for a moment and admire their portraits intertwined with videos of moving water. It invites us to reflect on our deep connections with water and offers a moment of calm meditation and wonder. The piece is inspired by the dark pools of still water our ancestors would have used as their first mirrors, such as
depicted in the greek tale of Narcissus, and its painterly feel reminds us of the classical masterpieces of Caravaggio, where light emerges from the dark. An atmospheric water soundscape accompanies and deepens that reflective moment.
