Jason Singh and Jonny Godsmark - Treeo

A sound artist, nature beatboxer, producer, DJ, performer and facilitator, Jason Singh’s areas of work all stem from a multi-sensory approach to sound and music.
And at the very heart of it, listening.
Jason’s ongoing exploration of nature, voice and technology, and collaborations with musicians, wildlife experts, visual artists and dancers feed into a wide range of multi-faceted projects in the UK and internationally.
His work encompasses live performance, gallery installations, sound walks, podcasts, DJ sets, and music for film and theatre, with commissions from national museums & galleries, BBC and major festivals.

Jonny started in the events industry in 1989, at Chichester Festival Theatre. Since then, he's worked in the West End, at Heaven, been on year long tours with Blood Brothers and the Roy Orbison musical, and a show called Taboo. He has designed Lighting for festivals, for buildings, for corporate presentations, Motor Shows, Exhibitions, Road shows, Theatre, Raves and Gigs and a shop for Banksy and now a tree!

About the work

Created especially for Light Night Wigan, Treeo is an innovative, three-way collaboration between sound artist Jason Singh, lighting designer Jonny Godsmark and the Redwood tree situated in Mesnes Park.

Treeo explores trees as living sculptures that, through their own internal electrical activity, are able to generate a live music and lighting performance. Making them composer, light show and living artwork.

The live performance is made possible through a process of manipulating the tree’s own electrical activity and converting it into a generative music and lighting experience.

Treeo is a development of Jason Singh's augmented reality installation The Hidden Music of Trees.

Live performances from the Tree, Jason Singh and Jonny Godsmark at 6-6.30pm and 7.30-8pm each evening, and the Tree will perform solo at all other times.
